The Ryokan Kurashiki stands out for its unique location, in the heart of the historic merchant district of the city of Kurashiki, rather than in a remote corner. This rare ryokan transports its guests back in time thanks to the beautifully preserved 17th century architecture that surrounds it. While most of the industrial port city of Kurashiki has been modernized, the old town retains its charm of yesteryear with its traditional black and white wooden kura lining the narrow streets. The Ryokan Kurashiki, consisting of three converted 18th century warehouses, is located in the middle of this picturesque maze. With only eight rooms spread over three buildings, each suite can accommodate up to four people, offering a clean space without distractions, traditionally furnished with tatami floors, cozy futons and low furniture, although some beds are western style.
The food served in Kaiseki style is elaborate and wonderful, with each designed specifically for the meal. Expect a succession of delicous and beautifully composed dishes based on the best seasonal ingredients.
Guests can also book a private Onsen bath at the Ryokan and the experience is simply amazing.
The service is refines, attentive and elegant as expected. This is the best of what Japanese hospitality has to offer.
